The Evolution of Libraries: Podcast Listening List

Every April, the U.S. celebrates National Library Week. Podcast Brunch Club is steadily adding more library partners to is list of chapters. In honor of both of these things, we wanted to put together a listening list that pays tribute to libraries all over the world.

Language Roundup

Adela and Sara discuss the podcast playlist on Language, which included episodes from The Allusionist, Ologies, Twenty Thousand Hertz, and Hidden Brain. Then, as usual, they diverge from the assigned listening list to talk about the recent Podcast Brunch Club meetings that happened in Houston and Chicago and some of the recommendations that came out of those meetings.

‘The Double Shift’ Shines a Light on Working Moms

‘The Double Shift’ Shines a Light on Working Moms

As jobs become more demanding and the cost of daycare continues to rise, working moms face bigger challenges today than at perhaps any other time in modern history. However, that does not mean they need to sit back and let the pressure of work and motherhood overcome them. Instead, some are taking it all in stride and figuring out how to rewrite the definition of working mom on their terms. Journalist Katherine Goldstein started The Double Shift to tell those stories and shine a light on the experience of being a working mother in 2019.

Language: Podcast Playlist

Language: Podcast Playlist

There are somewhere around 7,000 languages in the world, but only 23 languages account for more than half of the world’s population and nearly 2/3 of all languages are from Asia and Africa. Languages can be born, invented, change, and die. They can also unite or divide. There is some controversy about whether languages can change the way we think, but there is no doubt that language and identity are inextricably linked. This podcast listening list explores language from a variety of angles.
