Homelessness: December 2019 Listening List

Homelessness and houselessness rates are reaching historic highs worldwide. Every city or region takes its own approach to solving homelessness, each attempt as unique as the local population. This month, we highlight some of the struggles and solutions communities are using to tackle these humanitarian crises.

Stereotypes in Pop Culture: Podcast Playlist

This podcast playlist on “Representations & Stereotypes in Pop Culture” was curated by Morgan Jaffe, host of the Burst Your Bubble podcast, an independent podcast that focuses on racism, sexism, homophobia, and other -isms and -phobias in pop culture. Morgan is also the co-leader of the PBC-Boston chapter. I’m really interested and intrigued by media […]

Community Commentary: Creativity [Episode 4]

This is our first ever “community commentary” episode of the Podcast Brunch Club podcast! Emily Knight, audio ninja and chapter leader of our PBC-Bristol chapter, put together this episode for us. She recorded PBC-Bristol chapter members’ reflections and comments on the PBC podcast playlist on CREATIVITY.

Creativity: Listening List

Creativity: Listening List

I used to think creativity was something you either had or you didn’t. If you were creative, you would be drawn to something like writing or playing an instrument at an early age and continue to practice until you were really good. And if you weren’t really good at something creative by the time you were an adult, it simply meant you didn’t have the right passion or the right DNA. I failed at pretty much every instrument I tried growing up and nothing “creative” seemed to stick. Fortunately, I now know this binary view of creativity is complete hogwash, thanks in large part to podcasts. In an interview in one of the episodes below, author Elizabeth Gilbert says that the term “creative people” is redundant. All of us are creative, and sometimes you just need some permission to see yourself that way and to re-frame to yourself what creativity even means. My aim for the below list is to explore how the idea of creativity has evolved over time, what it actually is, and how we can use it everyday. I’m also hoping these episodes spark a little creative inspiration for you to follow your curiosity, like they did for me.

Fear: Listening List

Fear: Listening List

Halloween, an entire holiday predicated on fear, is around the corner. Fear comes in so many shapes and sizes. Some people avoid it and others seek it out explicitly. It can be used to hinder us and to motivate us. So, this month’s listening list is all about the power of fear. If you are in […]

Identity: Listening List

Identity: Listening List

This month’s theme is IDENTITY. I’m going to be honest here…I did not think the theme through enough before I asked for recommendations. Identity is such a broad concept, and I received so many great podcast recommendations. I quickly realized that it was going to be impossible to pick 3 episodes that touch on all […]

Religion, Spirituality & Belief: Listening List

Happy 2016! Hope you all had a great holiday. We’re actually on schedule for our monthly Listenings selection. One of our Chicago PBClubbers, Lynn, has proposed two podcasts that extend our holiday conversation about belief, faith, and spirituality. As you listen to the selections for this month, if you come up with a good question […]
