Music: Listening List

This is our first months of a thematic selection for our Listenings. This month’s theme is MUSIC. Chicago PBClubber, Erin, selected the podcasts below.

• Podcast: Caustic Soda (weekly podcast about science, horrible news and humor hosted by Toren Atkinson, Kevin Leeson and Joe Fulgham. Each episode of Caustic Soda takes a gruesome, gory or otherwise horrible topic, such as shark attacks, parasites and radiation, and breaks it down into an easily-digestible bubbling paste of funny! The hosts discuss the topic’s origins, recent news and pop culture. It’s hard science by soft people!)
  • Episode: “Cacheevo” by Sean Cullen. In this “music” episode, Canadian comedy legend Sean Cullen joins us to talk about music-inspired riots, castrati, music as torture, Norwegian black metal and backmasking. Plus movies, TV, and Lesser of Two Evils: would you rather be a castrato or have soot wart?
• Podcast: NPR’s Snap Judgement (Snap Judgment is the smoking-hot new show from NPR. Winner of the Public Radio Talent Quest, Glynn Washington delivers a raw, musical brand of storytelling, daring listeners to see the world through the eyes of another.)
  • Episode/Act: J. Dilla’s Lost Scrolls. When Jeff Bubeck buys an old record collection, he has no idea it once belonged to J. Dilla, one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time. But something else is uncovered. Something huge…
