Health & Relationships: Listening List
You hear it said often: as long as you have your health. Well, what if you don’t? This month’s podcasts explore deterioration of health and its effect on relationships. August’s podcasts were chosen by Chicago PBClubbers, Lynn and Juleen.
This month we are going to try something new to move the conversation along: please bring or post in the Comments sections a question or observation that came to you while you were listening to the podcasts.
- Love + Radio’s “The Living Room” episode (this was also featured on Radiolab). Diane’s new neighbors across the way never shut their curtains, and that was the beginning of an intimate, but very one-sided relationship. Love + Radio features in-depth, otherworldly-produced interviews with an eclectic range of subjects, from the seedy to the sublime. You’ve never heard anything like it before. New installments are added monthly.
- Death, Sex & Money’s “In Sickness and Mental Health” episode. Giulia and Mark Lukach got married when they were 24. Three years later, Giulia began experiencing paralyzing anxiety and paranoid delusions. She started talking about committing suicide.Giulia stayed in a psychiatric ward for 23 days. It took her almost a year to get back on her feet after she got out of the hospital. The recovery period took a toll on their marriage. Finally, Giulia did feel better. She started working again. And in 2012, after consulting a team of doctors, Giulia and Mark had a son named Jonas. Giulia was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has been hospitalized two more times. Death, Sex & Money is a podcast about the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation. Host Anna Sale talks to celebrities and regular people about relationships, money, family, work and making it all count while we’re here.
