Panoply Launches “Empire on Blood”

3/28/2018

Empire on BloodPanoply, a PBC partner, is launching a new podcast called “Empire on Blood” today! I was lucky enough to get advance access and couldn’t stop listening. It’s a true crime tale set in the Bronx in the early 90s. The story focuses on two young drug dealers who turn against each other. One ends up in prison for a double homicide he says he didn’t commit. Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman deftly guides the listener through a complex story of power, revenge, and justice.

All seven episodes are being released at once, allowing listeners to download and binge!

The podcast’s Managing Producer, Mia Lobel, sent along this special note to PBC members:

Hey Podcast Brunch Club members:

Mia Lobel here – lead producer of Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History. We’re busy putting together season three, but in the meantime, I want to tell you about my new show, Empire on Blood. When journalist Steve Fishman, came to us with 80 hours of recordings from more than six years of reporting, I knew we had something special. Many true crime stories are told after the fact – the characters are asked to describe what happened sometimes many years later, to try to remember how they felt back then. But Empire on Blood is different. Steve was there, in person, for so many of the crucial moments of the story, so the plot unfolds in real time. Everything happening on tape is immediate and raw, from jailhouse confessions to jazz singing lawyers. Plus, this show is more than just a whodunit. It’s a morally complex investigation of the criminal justice system, and what it means to put a known criminal away for a crime he didn’t commit. I’m so excited about it and I hope you are too! If you love it, please rate it and review us on Apple Podcasts so that more people can learn about this important story.

Cheers, Mia
